“The Legend of Georgia McBride” at Theatre NOVA extended through July 9
ANN ARBOR—Theatre NOVA has announced an extension of The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez, the successful production transferred from The Ringwald Theatre in Ferndale. The show was slated to end July 2 but has been extended through July 9 due to full houses, audience response, and critical acclaim.
About the show: He’s young, he’s broke, his landlord’s knocking at the door, and he’s just found out his wife is going to have a baby. To make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a run-down, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business, walking in heels, and himself.
“This is a clever script and a highly entertaining show with great music, good humor and plenty of sass. It’s reminiscent of both ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” and ‘The Full Monty.’ Don’t miss this one.” -EncoreMichigan.com
“Make it a point to go and see [it]. It’s fun, it’s fascinating, it’s provocative, and it’s one of the best shows currently playing around town. If you currently believe that being a drag queen is nothing more than engaging in a tawdry form of sleazy entertainment, you may change your mind after seeing this show. And you’ll have buckets of fun doing so.” – It’s All Theatre
“Provocative, powerful and poignant are the best words to describe this wonderfully chaotic and deeply endearing play. Check it out. You won’t regret it.” – Purple Walrus Press
“This show is wildly entertaining and gets enormous laughs. Playwright Matthew Lopez makes that possible with topical humor and larger than life characters. I won’t play favorites because when you have a cast this good it is very difficult to single anyone out of an ensemble. Overall this production is a must-see! If you love fish out of water tales, drag queens, music and laughter then this is the best $20 ticket in town.” – Detroit Laughs Louder
