Williamston opens 12th season with Laurie Gunderson’s “The Taming”

Preview September 08, 2017 Anne Kiley

WILLIAMSTON—Williamston Theatre kicks off their twelfth season with The Taming by Lauren Gunderson. Performances begin Thursday, September 21 and run through Sunday, October 22.

Tweetering, pandashrews, and undying giddiness for James Madison – what else would you expect to find at a Miss America pageant? The Taming is a raucous, all-female “power-play,” in which Miss Georgia has political aspirations to match her beauty pageant ambitions. All she needs to revolutionize the American government is the help of one ultra-conservative senator’s aide on the cusp of a career breakthrough, and one bleeding-heart liberal blogger who will do anything for her cause.

Contains adult content.

The cast of The Taming consists of two newcomers to the Williamston stage, Angela Dawe and Melissa Mercieca, along with Alysia Kolascz, who appeared most recently in last season’s production of Pulp. Lynn Lammers (Chapatti, The Best Brothers) returns to Williamston as the director for The Taming. The production team includes scenic design by Elspeth Williams , lighting design by Brian Scruggs, costume design by Holly Iler, sound design by Quintessa Gallinat and props design by Michelle Raymond. The stage manager is Stefanie Din.

The first four performances of The Taming, September 22 -24, are Preview performances where audience members will have the opportunity to take part in the process of creating a show by participating in a talkback session with the director following each performance. The Official Opening Night is Friday, September 29 and the Conversation Sunday for The Taming is Sunday, October 15.
