KALAMAZOO - "The Light in the Piazza" is a hit! Farmers Alley Theatre's latest production has garnered rave reviews from critics and standing ovations from sold out audiences, and as a result, four additional performances have been added to the schedule to meet the immense ticket demand.
The added performances are Wednesday, June 20 at 8 p.m. (special $20 ticket night); Sunday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, June 27 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Kathy Mulay with music direction by Catherine Walker Adams, "The Light in the Piazza" runs through July 1.
"The Light in the Piazza" stars Broadway actress Teri Bibb as Margaret Johnson, an American woman touring Florence, Italy with her daughter Clara. While there, Clara falls in love with a young Italian boy named Fabrizio. As cultures clash between the two families, secrets are revealed and Margaret is left with a choice: Should she try to protect her daughter or let her follow her heart? Winner of six Tony Awards in 2005, "The Light in the Piazza" has been hailed as "The most romantic musical since 'West Side Story.'" The Kalamazoo Gazette's Mark Wedel applauded the performance, citing "stunning vocals" and "a top-notch cast."
