Famed authors of 'A Little Work' coming to West Bloomfield Sept. 8-9

Posted: Sept. 1, 2012 at 8:20 a.m.

WEST BLOOMFIELD - Celebrated authors Anita Diamant and Stephen McCauley are widely known for their best-selling novels ("The Red Tent," "The Object of My Affection"), but they will be in West Bloomfield the weekend of Sept. 8-9 for something different: the professional premiere of "A Little Work," a play they co-authored.

"A Little Work" is being presented by Two Muses Theatre from Sept. 7-30 at the Barnes & Noble Theatre Space at 6800 Orchard Lake Rd., West Bloomfield.

In connection with the performance, the authors will discuss the play and read from recent work at Barnes & Noble at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8, prior to the performance, and will take questions from the audience following the 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Sept. 9.

The play, a comic mash up of "The Man Who Came to Dinner" and "Nip/Tuck," has fun with celebrity, plastic surgery, the trials and tribulations of middle age, and the consolations of friendship.

Diane Hill, co-founder of Two Muses Theatre and director of the show, said, "The play is perfect for our company for several reasons. Our mission is to provide opportunities for women in theater and to promote women artists and artisans. There are several rich roles for women in this play, and it's a wonderfully lighthearted look at how women view themselves and the pressures they put on themselves to maintain physical beauty. I was intrigued that it was written by two well-known, distinguished authors, and upon reading it, found it delightfully funny as well as poignant. I think audiences will really enjoy it."
