FLINT - The 2012-2013 Flint Youth Theatre Drama School season begins with Fall classes on Sept. 18. Classes are designed for students who are looking for a creative outlet and a place to build on their passion for theater. Class fees range from $70 to $95.
During the eight-session term, students age 3, and their families, through grade four experience the Creative Drama curriculum. This approach encourages a uniquely personal creative response from each child. Creative play and process drama activities nurture imagination, self-expression and confidence while developing individual willingness to participate as a respectful and contributing member of a group. Courses in this curriculum include Family Play, Creative Play, Dramatic Adventures and Story to Stage.
Students in grades five through 12 learn and put into practice the fundamentals of acting through the Acting curriculum. These classes are designed to help students develop as individual artists and as effective members of a creative ensemble. Each course draws from specific techniques to develop a student's mind, voice and body for a confident and honest performance before a live audience. This curriculum includes the Beginning Acting class and the Acting I, II and III classes.
"Every term students who have never taken theater classes before, alongside those who have been with us for many years, embark on new adventures in theater," said FYT education director Samuel J. Richardson. "Drama School students are given opportunities to creatively explore their imaginations through professionally guided courses designed specifically for their age and experience level."
All of the FYT Drama School classes culminate in a demonstration for family and friends on the final day of class. Classes are offered throughout the year, with the fall term beginning Sept. 18, the winter term starting on Jan. 15, and spring classes kicking off on April 9. A six-day Spring Break Theatre Camp is also offered April 1 through 6. Classes are designed to be taken more than once so students may build on their skills while having a unique experience each term.
Students may register for a term at any time before classes begin. The best tuition rate for the Fall Term is availble for students registering prior to Sept. 15.
Registration and information are available by calling 810-237-1530. Registrations are also accepted in person at FYT, 1220 East Kearsley Street, in the Flint Cultural Center. Complete class descriptions and registration forms are available at www.FlintYouthTheatre.org.
