'OffBeats' and sliders join the Go Comedy! schedule in February

Posted: Feb. 6, 2013 at 9:12 a.m.

FERNDALE - Go Comedy! is adding a new show and delicious gourmet sliders to its weekly line up in February with the "OffBeats" on Thursdays at 10 p.m. and the all new "Sunday Buffet" featuring gourmet sliders by The Sauced Chef, Nick Shultz.

In "OffBeats," the three most prolific beat poets the world has never known embark on a journey for inspiration and acceptance. Guided by calls of destiny, Bram (Joe Hingleberg), Mac (Travis Pelto) and Karl (James Quesada), along with Bart Ender (Ryan Parmenter), find themselves somewhere between harmony and dissonance in Go Comedy!'s newest late night show. Written by the cast and directed by Lauren Bickers with stage management by Peter Jacokes, "The OffBeats" opens Feb. 7 and appears Thursday nights at 10 p.m. through April 4. Tickets are $10.

Not only are Sunday nights at Go Comedy! "pay what you can," the Go! Bar's resident mixologist Andy French now teams up with The Sauced Chef Nick Shultz (formally of Brew Jus located in the Rustbelt Market) to bring Go Comedy! patrons a unique pairing of gourmet sliders and cocktails to enjoy during "The Sunday Buffet." The night begins at 7 p.m. with "Fresh Sauce," where anyone can sign up to perform new and classic improv games like those seen in the weekly "Go Comedy! All Star Showdown." At 8 p.m., Go Comedy!'s house improv team, The Grand Mutiny, kicks off a two-hour improv buffet featuring a rotating selection of Detroit's best improv teams.

A collection of hilarious scenes ranging from movie icons and mythological creatures to neighbors and new love, "Lame Duck Soup" continues to serve up a cocktail of comedy, sending audiences home shaken and stirred. Written by and featuring Jen Hansen, Erik Heilner, Pj Jacokes, Brian Papandrea, Carrie Parmenter and Chris Petersen, the popular show is directed by Pete Jacokes and plays Thursday and Friday nights at 8 p.m. through Feb. 28. Tickets are $15.

Anchoring the theater's weekly schedule since opening in November 2008, "Go Comedy! All Star Showdown" features a rotating cast of more than 20 of Detroit's best improvisers and a repertoire of hundreds of improv games. Two teams of Detroit's best improvisers go head to head in an improv competition tailored to challenge their abilities, think on their feet, and give audiences a roaring good time. The cast also plays for audience members who take home fabulous prizes when their team wins. Tickets are $15 for performances at 10 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturdays.

Tickets for all shows ($5-$15) are on sale now online at www.gocomedy.net or in person at the Go Comedy! box office beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. A complete performance schedule follows.
