DETROIT – Midtown Detroit, Inc. is pleased to announce the return of the extraordinary arts event "Art X Detroit: Kresge Arts Experience," happening April 10-14 in more than a dozen venues throughout Midtown Detroit's Cultural Center.
This five-day arts celebration presents works created by the 38 Kresge eminent artists and Kresge artist fellowship awardees and also features a special visual arts exhibition that runs through April 28 at the Museum of Contemporary Arts Detroit. More than 10,000 people attended the biennial arts experience debut in 2011, and this year's event offers an equally exciting program of dance, musical and theatrical performances, literary readings, workshops, panel discussions, public art, and more.
Funded by The Kresge Foundation, "Art X Detroit" is a free event produced by Midtown Detroit, Inc., a nonprofit organization that has spearheaded reinvestment in Midtown through the arts, beautification and economic development.
Detroit's art world continues to generate excitement on the national and international art scene, and attendees will experience this first-hand with "Art X Detroit"'s program. Special presentations by acclaimed Kresge eminent artists Bill Harris and Naomi Long Madgett will be showcased, and art enthusiasts will discover some of Detroit's most talented artists at MOCAD, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and other great venues in Midtown's Cultural Center.
"We are extremely grateful for The Kresge Foundation's unprecedented support of the arts in Detroit, which makes experiences such as 'Art X Detroit' possible," said Sue Mosey, president of Midtown Detroit, Inc. "As home to Detroit's Cultural Center and a neighborhood that values creativity, we are excited to host this spectacular arts celebration in Midtown."
"Art X Detroit" is made possible by The Kresge Foundation and is supported by its partners ArtServe Michigan, College for Creative Studies and MOCAD.
