Performance Network offers holiday repertory November/December
The start of the holiday season is here, and with it comes Performance Network Theatre’s tandem productions that run in repertory November through December.
Beginning the festivities is the Michigan premiere of Why Not Me? A Sammy Davis Jr. Story written by Tim Rhoze, which will run November 24 through December 19. Continuing the season is the world premiere of Dickens: An A Capella Carol by Charles Dickens running November 27 through December 20.
“Sammy is the Michigan premiere of a hit show from Chicago and Dickens is a world premiere of a holiday classic created right here by the Network,” said John Manfredi, executive director. “Although not musicals, both plays are filled with music and have something for everyone.”
Straight from its critically acclaimed soldout run in Chicago, Why Not Me? A Sammy Davis Jr. Story reveals the man inside the entertainer who became known as “Mr. Wonderful.” The play is set in 1989 shortly before his death. Mr. Davis, played by Sean Blake, reflects on the tragic car accident that took his eye, and other milestones in his life from the highest highs to the lowest lows and a few things hanging out in between.
In Dickens: An A Capella Carol, a mysterious storyteller accompanied only by a quartet of holiday carolers creates a highly entertaining and theatrical telling of the classic story “A Christmas Carol” for the entire family. Charles Dickens’ timeless tale of hope and redemption comes to life in this production filled with musical numbers, plenty of “Bah Humbugs” and Scrooge’s joyful transformation.
Performances for both plays vary Tuesday through Sunday each week. Tickets range in price from $25 to $44 and may be purchased online at www.pntheatre.org or by calling the box office at 7346630681.
