Twisted Storytellers will bring George Clinton to the DIA 11/5
The Secret Society Of Twisted Storytellers (TSSOTS) will present funk icon and legend, George Clinton, in Tales from the Funk in association with the 30 Americans Exhibition at the DIA. The Secret Society is a winner of the Knight Arts Challenge, which funds projects that engage and enrich Detroit through the arts.
“We are honored to have been invited by the DIA to participate in such a prestigious exhibition as 30 Americans. We thank the Friends of the Detroit Film Theatre for their generous partnership,” says Executive Producer, Satori Shakoor. “We are humbled and excited to celebrate George Clinton. His appearance has been two years in the making and a pure generosity on his part. Mr. Clinton’s music spans six decades. It brings a message of acceptance, fairness and respect of the social, political and spiritual beliefs of others.”
“Throughout history, in every place and time, there have emerged words and ideas to describe the living energy that flows through all great creative activity,” says Larry Baranski, DIA, Director of Public Programs. “In our time and place that word is funk, and the Friends of Detroit Film Theatre are exceptionally in debt to the Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers and George Clinton for their generosity in bringing a massive infusion of it to the Detroit Institute of Arts.”
The event, Tales from the Funk with George Clinton, will take place at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Detroit Institute of Arts – Detroit Film Theatre, 5200 Woodward Avenue in Detroit. The event will feature storytellers Austen Brantley and Dwight “Skip” Stackhouse, with musical guest “Queen of the Blues” Thornetta Davis and dance guests Legacy Competition Dancers. Satori Shakoor will host the evening.
