Pigeon Creek Shakespeare will play Richard II at Dog Story in December
The Grand Haven-based Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, Michigan’s only year-round, touring Shakespeare company, will present William Shakespeare’s Richard II at the Dog Story Theater, 7 Jefferson SE in Grand Rapids, on December 4, 5, 11, and 12 at 8:00 p.m., and December 6 and 13 at 3:00 p.m.. Tickets are $14 for adults, and $7 for students and seniors, and are available at the Dog Story website at www.dogstorytheater.com.
Richard II follows the history of England’s king Richard, who falls out of favor with his subjects and faces a rebellion led by his cousin, Henry Bolingbroke. The play caused controversy in Shakespeare’s own time period because it depicts a king being deposed. The royal government of Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare’s time saw the play as potentially encouraging rebellion against the monarchy. Pigeon Creek’s production is directed by Francis and Angela Boyle, a husband-wife team who are guest artists visiting from Cincinnati, and who previously directed Pigeon Creek’s 2013 production of Troilus and Cressida. The cast includes actors Kathleen Bode, Cassandra Chance, Rena Dam, Michael Dodge, Jacqueline Frid,, Bradley Hamilton, Kat Hermes, Sean Kelley, Claire Mahave, Bridget McCarthy, Julia Steudle, and Scott Wright.
