Pointless Brewery & Theatre to celebrate first anniversary New Year’s Eve

ANN ARBOR—On December 31, 2016, Pointless Brewery & Theatre will celebrate one full year of business. The idea, however, began many years earlier. Owners Jason and Tori Tomalia came up with the brainchild over a decade earlier, on their first date. The idea percolated and got pushed to the back burner as life got busy with a cross country move, marriage, kids, and grad school, until a shocking diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer forced the couple to take the leap of faith and make their dreams come true.

All of that culminated in a grand opening on New Year’s Eve last year. Over the past year, the improv cast, called the League of Pointless Improvisers, has performed 178 times, entertaining 4,000 audience members. The League has also performed in improv festivals across the country. The bartenders have sold close to 10,000 beers, and 100 students have taken classes at Pointless.

Meanwhile, Tori continues to take daily medication to control her cancer. Over the past two years, Tori has twice undergone stereotactic radiosurgery for cancer that spread to her brain (what Tori calls “brain surgery light”). Thankfully, the treatments appear to be working, and Tori and Jason are able to enjoy spending time at Pointless, and caring for their three children.

In celebration of the first anniversary, Pointless will be hosting “A New Year’s Anniversary Show” on Saturday, December 31 at 10:00 pm. The show will include live music, stories from local celebrity Jeff Irwin, and lots of improv from our League of Pointless Improvisers, including a countdown at midnight.

Pointless Brewery & Theatre is located at 3014 Packard, Ann Arbor. Tickets to this anniversary show are $15.00 and available online at www.pointlessbrew.com or by calling 989-455-4484.

Pointless Brewery & Theatre is Ann Arbor’s home for improvisational theatre and experimental ales, providing a place for improvisers to hone their craft through performances, classes, and workshops. The menu  offers simple, concession-style snacks, such as packaged chips and cookies, and people are free to bring in their own meals.
