Tibbits Opera House announces 53rd summer season
COLDWATER – Now in its 53 year, the Tibbits 2017 summer theater season begins in June with the comedy The Cemetery Club, followed by the musical comedy Damn Yankees, the adaptation of the 1984 film Footloose and the farce, Ken Ludwig’s The Fox on the Fairway.
The Cemetery Club will begin the season on June 15. This comedy follows three friends who are now widowed. Ida, Doris and Lucille, met once month before they visit their husbands graves. Their ritual and friendship is threatened when Doris and Lucille take steps to prevent Ida from beginning a new life with a new man.
Lola gets what Lola wants and what she wants is to lure the Joe Boyd into the hands of the devil. That is the focus of Damn Yankees which opens July 6. This musical comedy follows salesman Joe Boyd who attempts to help his beloved baseball team win by selling his soul to the devil, but the devil has other plans including using the charms of the alluring Lola to tip the scales in his favor.
Based on the hit film from 1984, Footloose The Musical will open July 27 and run through August 5. Ren, an idealistic teenager, moves from Chicago to a small town, that has outlawed dancing, and clashes with local authorities.
Ken Ludwig’s The Fox on the Fairway will close the 2017 summer season. This comedy depicts country club owner Bringham biting off more than he can chew in an attempt to win a golf game, a wager with his arrogant counterpart and get his life in order.
The 2017 summer season will begin June 15 with a matinee and evening showing of The Cemetery Club and concludes the week of August 15 with Ken Ludwig’s The Fox on the Fairway.
