Theatre NOVA calls for new play entries for Fall Fest

Industry July 29, 2017

ANN ARBOR—After the success of Theatre NOVA’s inaugural Michigan Playwrights Festival nearly two years ago, the theatre is continuing its semi-annual tradition and announcing a call for submissions for this season’s two festivals of new plays by Michigan playwrights. The Fall festival will run October 10–October 15, 2017. The deadline for submissions is August 20, 2017.

The festival will feature full-length plays. Those interested in submitting plays for consideration should send finished scripts to TheatreNovaPlaySubmissions@gmail.com with “Festival Play Submission” and the play title in the subject line. Included in the e-mail should be the playwright’s name, contact information and a two-sentence synopsis of the play.

Theatre NOVA’s mission statement focuses on new plays and new playwrights. Its goal is to work with new and local playwrights to help them develop their craft and to offer brand new plays for audiences. Theatre NOVA also uses the festival to find and develop full-length plays for future seasons. Theatre NOVA recently produced an original script by Michigan playwright Brian Cox as a result of its staged reading at a previous festival. Clutter was lauded by audiences and critics and earned two prestigious Wilde Award nominations, including Best New Script.

All readings will be at Theatre NOVA, 410 W. Huron, Ann Arbor’s resident professional theatre company. The location offers free parking, as well as quick walking access to downtown; nearby reference points are the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Big City Small World Bakery, Tasty Bakery, and The Last Word. The entrance for parking is near the intersection of Huron St. and Chapin St/3rd St.

Theatre NOVA’s mission is to raise awareness of the value and excitement of new plays and to provide resources for playwrights to develop their craft by importing, exporting, and developing new work. It seeks to create a sustainable theatre for generations to come, built on the cornerstones of accessibility, transparency, artistic leadership, and equality.
