Kennedy Center-commisioned young audience work at The Capitol Theatre May 11
FLINT—Night Train 57: A Sensory Friendly Folk Opera is a Kennedy Center commissioned work for young audiences. On Friday, May 11th at 7:30 pm in The Capitol Theatre, this hour long musical will invite audiences to sing and dance their way to outer-space.
A chance encounter at the laundry line with a new neighbor leads to an evening filled with mystery, joy, and surprise as the trio of musicians-turned-actors discover a magical lantern and map that change an ordinary picnic table into a legendary train that flies through the galaxies powered by music.
In this homespun and oddly sophisticated production, rustic modern folk music, slapstick, video projections, and puppetry combine to create a freewheeling, humorous, and often emotional experience for all ages and abilities. The sounds of guitar, trombone, cajon, conga, flute, and of course voices, are used to highlight the power of community, participation, imagination, and belief in the best of life’s possibilities.
Tickets are $10 and available by calling The Whiting Ticket Center at 810-237-7333 or online at www.thewhiting.com.
