Opera Grand Rapids announces 2018-2019 season; opens October 27 with ‘The Magic Flute’

GRAND RAPIDS—Opera Grand Rapids has announced its 2018-2019 season.

The season begins with Mozart’s The Magic Flute, October 27 and 28, 2018, starring acclaimed tenor Shawn Mathey as Tamino, John Viscardi as Papageno and the superb American coloratura, Jana McIntyre, as the Queen of the Night.

The Magic Flute is followed by one of the great masterpieces of the Italian repertoire, Verdi’s La Traviata June 14 and 15, 2019. La Traviata stars Metropolitan Opera soprano Elizabeth Caballero as the tragic courtesan, Violetta Valery. Elizabeth is joined by star tenor Raffaele Abete as Alfredo and Opera Grand Rapids’ beloved Mark Rucker as Germont.
