Review June 06, 2018 Encore Staff

HAMTRAMCK—The Daedalus 2 Mission: A Space Opera (D2M) is a 21-song, sci-fi-inspired rock fantasy that seeks to answer the question: when does Artificial Intelligence stop being artificial? The production will run at Planet Ant Theatre, June 22-24 and June 29-30. Find out more at daedalus2misson.com. Tickets are $22.

The production follows a team of space probes on a journey of discovery, loss, and affirmation at the edge of space and time. The show, with lyrics by Jim Territo and Joe Territo and music by Jim Territo, tells the story of a team of space probes who meet their ends in the galaxy’s distant future. Along the way, they consider what it really means to live. The songs span genres including rock, reggae, opera, electronica, and hip hop, with thought-provoking lyrics, charged vocals, and brilliant instrumentals.

Since its debut in August of 2017, the production has additional songs, a new cast, and theatrical costumes created by Michael Ameloot and Buddy VanLoon. The present cast includes: Willa Rae Adamo of Detroit, vocals and guitar; Jack Bennett of Royal Oak, vocals and guitar; Maya Gangadharan of Royal Oak, vocals; Paco Higdon of Royal Oak, vocals and guitar; Rollo Michael Rollin of Detroit (Corktown), vocals, percussion; Tiaja Sabrie of Highland Park, vocals; Hannah Taubitz of Hazel Park, vocals and keys; Victoria Rose Witherspoon of Detroit, vocals.

Composer Jim Territo of Clarkston is bringing his musical creation to Planet Ant this summer with talented director Rachel Biber. “I am very excited to be working with a great group of talented individuals on the next phase of the D2M production,” said Jim Territo. “Rachel and I have begun rehearsals and are really blown away by the incredible proficiency of the cast.”
