What A Do Theatre announces 9th season lineup

BATTLE CREEK—What A Do Theatre has announced its 9th season schedule. An vital part of the Battle Creek Community, What A Do strives to bring familiar classics to the stage that are thought-provoking, fun and memorable.

September 21–30 Erma Bombeck: At Wits End—Senior Readers Theatre. Due to its popularity, What A Do’s Senior Reader’s Theatre returns with this show, written by Allison and Margaret Engel, that reflects on the influence of Erma Bombeck, an American humorist who often commented on the suburban life of 1950s-1960s housewives.

October 12–21 True West. Written by Sam Shepard, this Broadway classic follows two brothers as they reconnect after a five-year estrangement. Quite opposite, these brothers disapprove of the other’s lifestyle, while also feeling as if each holds a piece of what is missing in the other’s life.

December 7–16 A Christmas Story- The Play. Jean Shepherd’s hilarious memoir has been adapted to the stage. Growing up in the Midwest during the 1940s, Ralphie Parker has one goal in mind: to obtain a genuine Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. All the beloved elements of the movie are portrayed on the stage in true theatrical fashion.

February 15–24 Sense and Sensibility. The classic Jane Austen novel adapted for the stage. Following the sudden death of their father, the Dashwood sisters find themselves in a vulnerable state, both financially and socially. Set in 18th century England when gossip ran rampant, the Sisters must react to the intrusive societal pressures they face. The show is full of humor, emotion and theatricality.

May 10–19 Mama Mia, The Musical. Sophie, ready to marry her fiancée Sky, is missing only one thing: her father to give her away. In search for her biological father, she invites three men described in her mother’s journal. Their arrival brings a hilarious, emotional and confusing road to the aisle for Sophie. Written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, based on the songs of ABBA.
