Wayne State is a “shoe in” with performance of ‘Xtigione’ starting 10/11
DETROIT, Mich.–Theatre and Dance at Wayne opens Xtigoni October 18, and is partnering with the the Foster Closet of Michigan to collect 124 pairs of new or gently used shoes from child size 8 to adult size 8. This shoe drive is going on now until October 31 and can be dropped off in the lobby of the Hilberry Theatre. We hope you can help us make a difference one pair of shoes at at time!
The play is a contemporary lyrical re-imagining based on Sophocles’ Antigone by NAMBI E. KELLEY
In present day Chicago, a woman mourns the death of her brothers, mowed down by a rival gang. Instead of dealing with the reality of violence in the city’s streets, her uncle intends to bury the bodies without investigation. Will she risk death by opposing her uncle? Using hip hop, poetry, dance, and dialogue that speaks with an urban voice, this re-imagining of Sophocles’ Antigone tells the story of a woman’s quest for her community’s truth.
The show contains adult situations and simulated violence.
