Planet Ant reprises ‘The Detroit Musical’ for 5 performances
HAMTRAMCK—Back by popular demand, Planet Ant Theatre announces the return of their original production, The Detroit Musical, for a limited, five-performance-only-run opening on Wednesday, March 13 (313 Day) and playing nightly through Sunday, March 17. Tickets ($17.01) are available online at www.planetant.com or in person at the Planet Ant Box Office, which opens 30 minutes prior to show time.
All performances are at the Ant Hall: 2320 Caniff St, Hamtramck.
Created by Planet Ant bedrocks, Shawn Handlon and Mikey Brown, the comedy musical follows the LaMerde family through 318 years of living in Detroit: Jacques LaMerde arrived with Cadillac in 1701, and his unsung progeny have been fighting the good fight in Detroit ever since. It recounts tales of the LaMerde family as they live through some of Detroit’s most famous historical moments. The French surrender? A LaMerde was there. The 1805 fire? A LaMerde was there. The birth of the auto industry? A LaMerde was there.
The March 2019 production is directed by Handlon with musical direction by Brown, and features the local talents of Rj Cach, Jennifer Horne, Daniel Jackson, Chris Korte and Paris Mason.“Because my love for Detroit runs so deep, I truly relish any opportunity that I get to revisit this show,” says Handlon, co-creator and Planet Ant artistic director.
