Emilio Rodriguez’s ‘Mamacita’ at Planet Ant opens April 5
HAMTRAMCK—Planet Ant offers a Black Box double feature at 2357 Caniff St, Hamtramck, from April 5 through 20, featuring Emilio Rodriguez’s one-act, Mamacita, and a “best of” sketch revue from Planet Ant’s weekly comedy show, Thursday Night Live. Tickets are available online at www.planetant.com.
Mamacita is a new play that explores the challenges and triumphs of maintaining an intercultural relationship in America. When the charismatic, “Barrio Boy” Ricky and shy, romantic poet, Bianca fall in love, they embark on a journey of obstacles and successes that serve as a metaphor for the too often unexplored race relations of Black and Latino communities — and when a baby is added into the mix, the two must take a closer look at their relationships and themselves. Mamacita stars Detroit actors Kayla Mundy and Justino Solis.
The original one-act is part of Planet Ant’s Black Box Double Feature Series. It will share a performance block with the Ant Hall Players in a “Best Of” sketch revue from Planet Ant’s weekly comedy show, Thursday Night Live. The players include Brad Carter, Nick Crestwood, Jessica Femminineo, Eleanor Fuchs, Alex Suriano, and Patty Rooney.
