WSU Underground Student Theatre announces summer season
DETROIT – The Underground Student Theatre Company is a summer program at Wayne State University that is made entirely by the students. The 2019 season explores the human condition and the source of joy and suffering within the human mind.
Opening the 2019 season will be Jean Paul-Sartre’s “No Exit”. A dark, twisted story of being trapped in hell, “No Exit” follows three people who are desperately trying to escape the torture they receive from and inflict upon each other. “No Exit” will premier in the Underground Theatre underneath the Hillberry Theatre June 20th-28th.
Following this is the Christopher Durang classic, “The Marriage of Bette and Boo”. This tragicomedy stars a couple who refuse to learn from their mistakes. They follow their parents in a maddening cycle that will make you laugh, think, and need a drink. “The Marriage of Bette and Boo” will perform July 5th-12th in the Underground Theatre underneath the Hillberry.
Our 2019 season ends with a bang when we open our final show, “A Dream Play” by August Strindberg. “A Dream Play” is a surreal journey where the daughter of a god ventures to earth to find the source of human suffering. “A Dream Play” will be mounted July 18th-26th in the Underground Theatre underneath the Hillberry.
