News August 07, 2019 David Kiley

DETROIT, Mich.–Theatre & Dance at Wayne State University announced its Fall season:

Blithe Spirit: by Noel Coward
Hilberry Theatre
September 20 – October 6, 2019

Blithe Spirit, Sir Noel Coward’s hauntingly hilarious comedy, is the story of Charles Condomine, a successful novelist, who has invited friends to the lavish estate he owns with his second-wife, Ruth, to witness a séance. He hopes to prove that seances are just superstitious nonsense. The only problem is, he’s invited a very real medium, Madame Arcati, to conduct the evening’s ritual. When Madame Arcati unleashes the spirit of his first wife, Elvira, things go from “oh dear” (with English accent) to “oh no!” as Elvira wreaks havoc on Charles, Ruth, and the house. Impeccably clever, Blithe Spirit is ripe with wit and charm and will leave you rolling in your graves from laughter.

The Heathers: Book, Music and Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy

Heathers the Musical
is a dark and delicious story based on the 1988 cult film classic film which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. In the musical, Veronica Sawyer is a brainy teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers — three ultra-rich and ultra-popular girls who rule the school through fear and intimidation. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and suck up to the Supreme Queen of the click… but J.D. has another plan for that bullet.
