Hope Summer Rep cancels 2020 season

News April 14, 2020 David Kiley

HOLLAND – With the number of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. on the rise and uncertainty regarding the disease’s impact and mitigation efforts in the future, Hope College has canceled the forthcoming 49th season of Hope Summer Repertory Theatre (HSRT).

“Hope College has made the very difficult decision to postpone Season 49 out of concern for the safety of our employees, patrons and community,” said Anne Bakker, HSRT’s managing director.  “While we are disappointed we will not be bringing a vibrant summer of theatre to the community this year, we will be using this time to look for ways to keep our entire community connected to the arts in these uncertain times and to present a very special season next summer.  We are grateful to the community for its ongoing support of HSRT and look forward to the 2021 season, HSRT’s 50th anniversary.”

This summer will be the first that HSRT hasn’t staged a season since it was established in 1972.  The first company members would have arrived on May 10, and the season would have featured eight productions between May 29 and August 6.

Although the ticket office is currently closed due to the statewide stay-at-home order that extends through April 13, the staff is working remotely. Those who purchased tickets in advance will be contacted via mail with options to apply their ticket purchases. Additionally, there is information on the HSRT website, hope.edu/hsrt, and a form to request reimbursement.
