Ten Questions: Dan Cooney
DEXTER, Mich.–Dan Cooney is the founding Artistic Director of The Encore Musical Theatre here.
Cooney has performed on Broadway and in Touring theatre, as well as regional theater, including Encore. He was last seen in Secret Garden last December, and Fun Home before that.
Cooney is in the midst of a capital campaign to expand Encore Musical Theatre, and is developing a performing arts academy connected with the theatre.
The Encore has done very well over its decade+ of work winning Wilde Awards for Best Actress, Best Musical, Best Costumes and Best Music Direction.
We asked Dan to answer the Ten Questions based on eight developed by James Lipton for his guests at The Actors Studio, plus *two of our own.
What is your favorite word?
What is your least favorite word?
The C word.
What turns you on?
Boating on calm, clear, open water.
What Turns You Off?
What sound or noise do you love?
Children laughing, the crackle of a blazing bonfire.
What sound or noise do you dislike?
A chalkboard scraping.
What is your favorite curse-word?
FUCK is usually the one that leaps out
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
*What play would you do if you were told you had just one more play? One of my current favorites is Dear Evan Hansen.
*What role remains on your bucket list?
Something new. I’d like to create and develop a new work with an exciting team of pros and take the ride along with them starting here in Michigan.
