Flint Repertory Theatre

From world-class productions for audiences of all ages, to classes for students ages 2 through high school, Flint Youth Theatre offers year-round programming for the entire community. As a program of the Flint Institute of Music, FYT’s mission is to change lives through extraordinary live theater arts experiences. FYT’s offerings include the following:

  • Imaginative, daring and insightful, our flagship MainStage plays for all audiences are drawn from literature, folklore, fantasy, history and social issues. Previous titles have included “The Miracle Worker,” “The Wizard of Oz” and the world premiere of “Bloom.”
  • Tailored for ages 3 and up and their families, FirstStage is a great first step in a life-long journey of celebrating theater and the arts. Productions include national touring companies as well as FYT productions, such as “Go, Dog. Go!”
  • SummerStage presents two plays, one for very young children and another for older audiences, side-by-side in a fun-filled end-of-summer festival. The inaugural season of SummerStage included “Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
  • For adults and older teens, Off The Press presents staged-readings of the latest plays from Broadway and American Regional Theater. Previous titles have included “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” “Doubt” and “Middletown.”
  • For school groups and their teachers, Learning Through Theatre matinees bridge the gap between theater and the classroom. The Learning Through Theatre series includes plays from the MainStage and FirstStage seasons.
  • Drama School offers classes in acting and creative drama year-round for students age 2 through 12th grade. Students are taught how to craft an effective performance onstage before an audience. Additional benefits for students include growing in confidence, self-expression, empathy, respect, academic performance, discipline, self-worth, communication skills and responsibility.
