A Bit About People, Plays, And Programs at DPT:

DPT collaborates with and serves Detroit audiences, students, and artists. We produce 4-5 high-quality productions each year that run for 4-7 weeks each. DPT also creates and runs innovative education, art residency, and community programs. We are proud to collaborate with inspired and inspiring artists and to share their work with our community. Among the members of our DPT family are TONY-nominated and MacArthur Genius Award winning playwright Dominique Morisseau who serves as Executive Artistic Producer and playwright Noah Haidle, whose play BIRTHDAY CANDLES opened on Broadway, after being commissioned by DPT and premiering on our stage in our third season.

We are committed to accessibility for all Detroiters with an initiative to provide access to our performances. Our post-show dialogues promote important conversations about the questions posed by our plays, connecting audience members with each other and with our artists. We collaborate with many Detroit cultural institutions, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Wayne State University, and the Detroit Historical Society, to enhance our programming and impact. We also partner with Detroit Public Schools to create and facilitate arts-connected curricula accompanied by student matinees and post-show programming. Our signature community program, Shakespeare in Prison, works with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, empowering participants (more than 90% of whom will return home) to learn crucial skills as they reconnect with their humanity and that of others through Shakespeare’s works.
