My Voice, My City: Cabaret In Conversation

DETROIT, MI (April 2026) — Two Detroit-based arts organizations are joining forces to spotlight local talent and expand access to live performances with the launch of a new series, Cabaret in Conversation. The inaugural event, My Voice, My City, will take place on Friday, May 8 at 7:00 PM at Wildemere Bar in Detroit.

Presented by Cabaret 313 and The GhostLight Arts Initiative (GLAI), the performance features Detroit vocalist Jynn Cole, joined by pianist Brian Buckner, in an intimate evening of music and storytelling rooted in the city’s rich creative legacy.

Cole embodies Detroit’s deep musical tradition, having performed alongside artists including Karen Clark Sheard and Angela Winbush. With her band Jynn and Juice and her debut EP Honey Fall, she brings a sound that bridges classic R&B with contemporary storytelling.

Detroit singer, Jynn Cole
“Detroit has influenced every part of who I am as an artist from the soul and honesty in the music to the resilience in my story.” says Cole.

“Every song represents a different version of me…creating a space where the audience can connect, reflect, and celebrate growth together.”

Cabaret in Conversation brings cabaret into community-centered spaces, offering a relaxed and accessible experience that blends live music with personal narrative. The event is free to attend with advance registration, creating a welcoming entry point for audiences new to the art form.

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to using the performing arts as a tool for connection and community impact. Through this partnership, both organizations continue to create a space for Detroit artists to share their voices.

“I’ve always loved cabaret,” says John Sloan III, (ED of GhostLight, Producing AD of The Obsidian Theatre Festival).

“It fosters incredible intimacy between the artist and the audience, and this type of performance tradition has a long history in Black culture. We’re thrilled to keep building on that legacy and ensure that arts access exists in neighborhoods across Detroit."

The GhostLight Arts Initiative is a social-impact organization dedicated to leveraging creative, performing, and media arts as catalysts for social progress.  The cabaret is part of GLAI’s Neighborhood Engagement Program Series, with support from the Gilbert Family Foundation.

The event is part of Cabaret 313’s E3 Initiative: Educate, Elevate, Expand, supported in part by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. The E3 mission is to become a more integral part of the arts community through expanded community partnerships and youth educational programming, while advancing visibility and opportunities for local performing artists.

With limited capacity, advance registration is required. Tickets are available at www.cabaret313.org/may-8.
