Always A Bridesmaid, Meadow Brook Theatre
Front Row (L to R):  Kennedy Vernengo as Understudy and Cheryl Turski as Libby Ruth Ames.  Second Row (L to R): Stephanie Wahl as Sedalia Ellicott, Kasie Buono Roberts as Kari Ames-Bissette, Dani Cochrane as Charlie Collins, Leslie Ann Handelman as Deedra Wingate, Milika Chereé as Monette Gentry, and Princess Beyoncé Jones as Understudy

A promise made at a senior prom leads to a lifetime commitment for four women. Thirty years ago, Libby Ruth, Deedra, Monette and Charlie promised they would be bridesmaids for each other. These Southern gals are determined to honor their vows—for better, worse or hysterical chaos—with every walk down the aisle.

Always a Bridesmaid, by Jones Hope Wooten, runs May 27 through June 21, 2026, at Meadow Brook Theatre on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester.

“Our audiences will spend the performances laughing out loud during Always a Bridesmaid,” says Travis Walter, MBT artistic director.

“The ‘playwright'—Jones Hope Wooten—is three individuals: Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, writing together. With their vast experience in comedy writing, a Jones Hope Wooten play is always a good time, and this is one of the best.”

The cast is comprised of some of MBT’s favorite comediennes: Milika Chereé (Monette Gentry), Dani Cochrane (Charlie Collins), Leslie Ann Handelman (Deedra Wingate), Kasie Buono Roberts (Kari Ames-Bissette), Cheryl Turski (Libby Ruth Ames), and Stephanie Wahl (Sedelia Ellicott). Understudies are Princess Beyoncé Jones and Kennedy Vernengo.

Always a Bridesmaid is directed by Travis W. Walter. Scenic design is by Donna Beagle, costume design by Liz Goodall assisted by Katie Rain Auberle, lighting design by Eric Van Tassell, and sound design by Matthew Chase. Brittanie Nichole Sicker is stage manager and Stacy White is the assistant stage manager.
