(Flint, MI) – Buckham Alley Theatre is excited to announce a special stage reading of the original play “My Summer at Camp-O-CHE-MO,” written by Michigan natives Carol Kushion and Richard W. Hingst. The performances will take place at the Hospitality House at McLaren Flint (G-3170 Beecher Road) on July 17th and 18th at 7 PM, and July 19th at 2 PM. Tickets will go on sale starting June 14th for just $10 (BAT Members get $2 off) and can be purchased on our website at www.buckhamtheatre.org.
“My Summer at Camp-O-CHE-MO” tells the poignant story of a retired schoolteacher and her diverse group of fellow patients navigating the challenges of chemotherapy treatments with humor, hope, and camaraderie. Through its exploration of the ups and downs of cancer treatment, the play shines a light on the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of community in times of hardship.
The reading will be preceded by cancer screenings provided by the Karmanos Center, available one hour prior to each performance. Following the reading, attendees are invited to participate in an engaging talk-back panel discussion featuring the writers, actors, and oncologists from the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint, allowing for a deeper conversation about the themes presented in the play.
The writing duo encourages audiences to gain insight into the challenges faced by cancer patients and the vital support systems that aid in their journeys. They aim to foster discussions on how loved ones can offer practical and emotional support. Join us for this meaningful exploration of courage, connection, and the indomitable human spirit.
