DETROIT, MI - This August, over one hundred non-profit organizations in Detroit are rallying their supporters to compete in the Rocket Community Challenge, sponsored by Rocket Mortgage. Detroit joins four other cities (Cleveland, Dallas, Phoenix, Seattle) along with a national campaign targeted at supporting community organizations in an effort to raise funds.
According to the official website: "The Rocket Community Challenge is a month-long fundraising competition that shines a spotlight on hundreds of incredible nonprofits across the country... The more they raise, the closer they get to unlocking additional funds through Grand Prizes and Bonus Challenges. Last year alone, participating nonprofits raised over $1.7 million."
The challenge launched last Monday, August 3rd. Detroit is already in the lead, as organizations across the city have raised a total of $195,572 as of this morning (8/10/26).
Six Detroit organizations are participating in the Arts & Culture category, with three theatre companies Encore Michigan readers will easily recognize. Detroit Repertory Theatre, Open book Theatre, and The GhostLight Arts Initiative (parent org to Encore Michigan and The Obsidian Theatre Festival) are all encouraging donors to give.
The challenge runs until August 28 with weekly competitions that provide incentives, bonuses, and additional prizes.
