I'LL BE SEEING YOU | The Michigan Irish Repertory Theatre | Runs May 29-31

I'll Be Seeing You, by Michigan playwright David Kiley, tells the story of WW2 through the eyes, letters and music of his parents, Charles Kiley (a Stars and Stripes war correspondent) and Billee Gray, the woman he met during basic training and proposed to after three dates.

The story culminates with VE Day 1945, the surrender of the Germans to the Allies. Kiley was the only reporter present for the surrender negotiations and for both surrenders in France and Germany. The play, which includes ten songs from the era plucked from the letters between Charles and Billee (performed as if on the radio) that linked the two correspondents across the ocean, also features a multi-media experience that makes the show unforgettable.

“This is a very special story about two people who met...and then got to know one another through wonderfully written letters over three and half years while each experiencing the war in their own ways,” says Artistic Director David Kiley.

Kiley, the previous Encore Michigan publisher, also directs the piece. The play features some past Wilde Award winners, and the Encore Michigan community may avail themselves of the $5 (pay what you wish) reserved seats.

STRATFORD & MICHIGAN: A Cultural Connection Across Borders

Stratford isn’t just a place for theatre—it’s a place to breathe. Nestled along the Avon River, the town offers a sense of calm that contrasts beautifully with the intensity of the stage. There’s a rhythm here: grab coffee in a quiet café, see a show, talk about it in the park, then maybe catch another.

It was this atmosphere that kept me coming back, summer after summer...
