Tipping Point Theatre Season 18 schedule

NORTHVILLE, MI (August, 2025) Tipping Point Theatre (TPT) announces its 18th theatrical season, launching on September 17, 2025, with the Michigan premiere production of Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon’s The Shark is Broken, a dramatically funny “peek” onto the set of the 1970’s summer blockbuster Jaws, followed by the return of the holiday hit A Very Northville Christmas, by Robert Hawlmark, a celebration of family and the enduring power of hope with Nathan Louis Jackson’s Broke-ology, the Michigan premiere of Gene & Gilda, by Cary Gitter, and concludes with Lauren Gunderson’s funny, satirical and poignant work, The Revolutionists. TPT’s production of vibrant, culturally-significant, captivating theatrical offerings rank among some of the best professional performances offered in the state of Michigan.

“We continue our mission of celebrating live professional theatre by producing a wide range of diverse, thought-provoking programming” states TPT Artistic Director, Julia Glander.

“When you hear the theme music from Jaws, do you feel your muscles tense up? Does the smell of pine and peppermint bring you tidings of comfort and joy? This season, we celebrate these nostalgic moments and invite audiences to create new ones–live and in person at Tipping Point.”

The season launches on September 17th  with the Michigan premiere production of Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon’s The Shark is Broken. It’s 1974 and filming is delayed on the set of Jaws. Days turn into weeks and the three starring actors are cooped up on the Orca, while the fourth character, “Bruce,” the mechanical shark, is broken. Amidst foul weather and sometimes fouler tempers, the actors pass the time drinking, gambling and sharing stories as fragile egos come charging, then devoured and spit out creating a dynamic, comic chaos. A true celebration of the 50th anniversary of Jaws, Hollywood’s first summer blockbuster. “A wild ride worth taking,” states Entertainment Weekly.

The season continues on November 19th  with the return of Robert Hawlmark’s A Very Northville Christmas. It’s every Christmas in any year in Northville, Michigan. Snow falls, the big tree is lit, cookies are baked and everything is Hallmark holiday perfection. Well...kinda? This hilarious spoof became a Northville favorite in 2023, and it’s back! A new cast takes on various characters with breakneck speed and agility. Will the big-city gal find love with the small-town guy? Only one thing is for sure—schnapps is the peppermint of choice. TPT celebrates Northville with loads of humor and love.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for A Very Northville Christmas, with an opportunity for sponsoring entities to play a part, literally, in this returning hit production. Please contact the theatre directly at tix@tippingpointtheatre.com.

Beginning February 11, 2025, TPT celebrates every aspect of family with Nathan Louis Jackson’s Broke-ology. It’s 2008 in Kansas City, Kansas, and the King family is dealing with the ever-present hardships of living. Two brothers congregate in their childhood home to joke, remember, squabble and confront who’s going to care for their ailing Dad. What emerges is a love story between father and sons and the memories that keep us going. “The audience is treated to a work that is thoughtful and reflective throughout (DC Theatre Scene)” as TPT celebrates the strength of familial ties and the enduring power of hope.

Next, opening on April 8th, another Michigan premiere with Cary Gitter’s Gene & Gilda, “successfully balancing humor with grief, humanizing both Gene and Gilda beyond their public personas (Stage and Cinema).” It’s Hollywood in the late 1980’s and Gene Wilder is giving his first interview after the death of his beloved Gilda Radner. Although he states any discussion of Gilda is off limits, the topic of Gilda crashes the interview. The famous couple come to vivid life as we follow them from their first meeting through their personal and professional ups and downs, all the way to their poignant farewell. “An often absorbing, funny and ultimately moving dual bio-drama (The Wall Street Journal),” TPT celebrates an intimate portrait of two comic legends in love, and the lives they led beyond the laughter.

TPT’s 18th season closes with Lauren Gunderson’s The Revolutionists, with performances beginning on June 3rd. It’s 1793 during France’s Reign of Terror. Four badass women from history (a playwright, an assassin, a former Queen, and a Caribbean spy) walk into a room and attempt to save the soul of France (not to mention their own heads) as they fight for equality in the midst of extremist insanity. Oh, and it’s a comedy! TPT celebrates a unique theatrical adventure—by turns funny, inventive, invigorating, satirical, poignant and enlightened. “Wonderfully wild and raucous” declares the Cincinnati Enquirer.
