Chamber Music at the Scarab Club Opens the 28th Season!
DETROIT, MI - Chamber Music at the Scarab Club is excited to present the opening concert of its 28th season on Sunday, October 4th, from 3-5 p.m., upstairs in the lounge gallery of The Scarab Club (217 Farnsworth, Detroit 48202).
Drake Dantzler, tenor, Alta Boover Dantzler, contralto, John Alexander Madison, viola, and Simon Adda-Reyss, piano, present an intimate evening of chamber music exploring love, faith, consolation, and spiritual reflection. The program will include Johannes Brahms's Two Songs, Op. 91 and Ralph Vaughan Williams's Four Hymns. Composed nearly three decades apart, these works reveal distinct facets of the unique dialogue of tone and timber between voice, viola, and piano. Brahms' settings, Geistliches Wiegenlied, and Gestillte Sehnsucht, intertwine lyricism and rich Romantic harmony, while Vaughan Williams' deeply personal cycle draws on centuries of
English devotional poetry, to evoke moments of ecstatic praise, profound introspection, and quiet transcendence.
Drake Dantzler and Alta Boover Dantzler are both faculty members at Oakland University’s
School of Music, Theater and Dance. This wonderful husband and wife duo have appeared separately and together on the CMSC series before. They each have a wealth of experience in the world of opera as well as recital performances.
John Madison is currently the Principal Violist of The Detroit Opera orchestra and performs regularly with the Detroit Symphony and the Sphinx Symphony orchestras. He also is no stranger to CMSC audiences and has an extensive background in chamber music.
Simon Adda-Reyss is joining us from his home in France and is looking forward to performing this program at the Scarab Club. Adda-Reyss regularly performs on piano and organ in Paris and around the world as a soloist and as a chamber musician.

CMSC concerts offer an intimate experience, with audiences seated close to the musicians and
