FIM Flint Repertory Theatre names Nicole Samsel Producing Artistic Director

Nicole Samsel is no stranger to the theatre. Currently in the middle of her fifth season with the Flint Repertory Theatre, she is an award-winning theatre artist and producer. And, last week, Samsel was named Flint Rep's new Producing Artistic Director.
Samsel began working for FIM as Flint Rep.'s Managing Director and assumed responsibilities as Interim Artistic Director after the departure of Michael Lluberes last year.
In addition to her work at FIM, Samsel previously served as the Director of Operations for LA based Antaeus Theatre Company, GM for the NYCCabaret "54 Below", and as an administration for Asolo Rep and Two Rivers Theatre.
While serving as Interim Artistic Director, Samsel launched the new program Flint Rep on the Road, a touring initiative bringing professional theatre into community spaces such as schools and senior centers. She also planned the current season in collaboration with University of Michigan-Flint while renovations are in progress at the Elgood Theatre.
“Nicole has played a significant role in Flint Rep’s past awards and successes and, more recently, has led with confidence, creativity, and a deep commitment to this community,” said Rodney Lontine, President & CEO of FIM. “Her steady leadership and compelling vision are helping shape a strong future for Flint Rep, and we are thrilled to have her step into this role permanently.”
“I’m deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and excited to continue this work with such an inspiring group of artists, partners, and supporters,” said Samsel.
“Over the past year, we’ve seen what’s possible when we invest in collaboration, education, and bold artistic work," she continued. "I’m excited to keep expanding the ways theatre can show up for Flint: through new partnerships, new voices, and unforgettable live experiences.”
Samsel graduated magna cum laude from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal
Performance and Theatre and holds a master's degree in performance studies from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
Flint Rep.'s New Works Festival returns this weekend, February 13-15, and their production of Lucky Stiff opens March 20.
